John Edwards: The new RFK?
by Patrick Hurley
[scriptwriter] 7/13/07

After frantically searching for a campaign theme that will make it possible for him to become the next Presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, Former Senator John Edwards has seemed to find one…

Savior of the poor.

Excuse me while I burst out laughing.

Look up the word, “shameless” in Webster’s Dictionary and you will see a neatly trimmed picture of Snidely Whiplash (sans mustache) with a $400.00 haircut sneering at the American voting public. The caption accompanying it reads, “The New and Improved Bobby Kennedy!” I have one question for Mr. Edwards: Do you really believe we are all that STUPID?

Comparing Johnny Reid Edwards to Robert Francis Kennedy is akin to Dan Quayle believing he is JFK. Where is Lloyd Bentsen when we need him now?

Edwards says with a straight face, “Let them (the people who believe he is a hypocrite) attack. We know what’s right and we intend to keep fighting to end the national disgrace of 37 million Americans living in poverty.” Who’s “we?” The people who truly want to help the poor or John Edwards the homeowner who is building a 28,000 square foot residence? Of course, he will argue, the Kennedy and Roosevelt families were also rich but THEY helped the poor. There is a precedent here for Johnny Reid, yes?

No.

There is a big difference.

The Kennedys and the Roosevelts cut their teeth on politics and spent their lives trying to make the world a better place. John Edwards has spent his life trying to make HIS world a better place. His millions were made chasing ambulances and lining his pockets with the blood of those who sued the medical system. Every nail and board used in the building of his mansion will be paid for by a doctor or a corporation that lost to him in court. This is a guy who sees an opportunity and grabs it by the throat until all the life is squeezed out of it. He has the conscience of a vulture screaming towards a newly disposed carcass. And now, because his Presidential dreams are foundering, he has to invent a personna that will make him seem noble and righteous…

John Edwards. Pope of the Poor.

This week he is transparently embarking on a political tour to the same cities Robert F. Kennedy visited in 1968 ending in the exact place that RFK visited on his, “help the poor” campaign: Prestonburg, Kentucky. Not only is John Edwards desperate, he is desperately trying to be someone else. But unlike the late Senator, there is one thing he never has to worry about…

Being assassinated.

Only people who have the ability to make a difference with their lives have that concern. ExileStreet
