On David Mamet and Jeremiah Wright
by Burt
Prelutsky [scriptwriter] 4/7/08
Recently, at least if you’re a conservative, writer-director David Mamet has taken on heroic proportions. And it has nothing whatever to do with his rather second-rate, obscenity-laced plays and movies, everything to do with a piece he wrote for the Village Voice. In it, he announced that, at the age of 60, he has decided to stop being a liberal. It’s always a cause for celebration whenever anyone leaves the darkside, and I suppose if I had ever liked anything he’d written besides the script for “The Untouchables,” I’d be somewhat more excited by his conversion.
The truth is, within 24 hours, half a dozen friends had forwarded me the piece. What I found odd was that they were so thrilled at the news that not one of them even took exception to the paragraph in which Mamet compared a president, George W. Bush, he had always considered a monster with a president, John F. Kennedy, whom he had always revered. I guess he was striving for irony in listing similar things each had done. But how was it he could write, “Bush outed a CIA agent; Kennedy left hundreds of them to die in the surf at the Bay of Pigs” and have nobody raise an objection?

How, at this very late date, could Mamet be laboring under the delusion that the president had outed Valerie Plane Wilson? When the leftists in and out of the media thought they could use Mrs. Wilson to bring down the current administration, they carried on as if it was the biggest scandal since Watergate or the Teapot Dome. But once it was discovered that the loose lips belonged to Richard Armitage, and the whole fishy mess couldn’t be laid at the feet of President Bush or Karl Rove, the liberals lost all interest in the affair. But perhaps Mr. Mamet was off directing a movie at the time and nobody thought to mention it to him.
This brings us to Barack Obama and his friend and mentor, Jeremiah Wright. Rev. Wright has apparently made a career out of cursing America and vilifying white Christians, except, of course, when Barack and the missus happened to be in church.
Although Mrs. Obama and Mr. Wright seem to share a number of beliefs, none of which have anything to do with religion, we are being asked to believe that before letting loose about the “U.S. of KKK America” or how 9/11 was merely a case of America’s chickens coming home to roost, Rev. Wright would carefully check out the pews to make sure he wouldn’t be offending the tender sensibilities of Barack Obama. Apparently, in 20 years of church attendance, Barack was never once around when Wright would tell the congregation that they should never sing “God Bless America” unless they changed the lyrics to “God Damn America.”
What about Obama’s little daughters? Were they in church listening to their daddy’s good friend and spiritual advisor insisting that white Americans spread the AIDs virus in the black community as a form of genocide?
Perhaps because people have been pondering just how gullible Obama must think we are, nobody else seems to have considered just how racist and hate-filled all those neat, well-dressed Chicago blacks must be to sit there Sunday after Sunday lapping up those insane and blasphemous sermons, and shouting their “amen’s” and applauding on cue.
Rev. Wright isn’t just another storefront minister, either. We’re told by Obama and others that he’s a widely-respected theologian. He is influential not just in Chicago, where he’s also a radio personality, but across the entire country. So, God only knows how many other black ministers are spewing this same brand of swill from their pulpits, parroting Wright at his most vile.
Perhaps, Al Sharpton and Charles Rangel, Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan, are to be taken seriously, after all. Maybe America really is as racist as they keep insisting. Black America, at any rate. ExileStreet
